EDWARD LEE THORNDIKE WAS BORN
Edward Lee Thorndike "Ted" was born on August 31, 1874, in Williamsburg, Massechusetts, to Edward Roberts and Addie Thorndike. It is believed that because of his father being a Methodist Minister and having a strict religious upbringing, Thorndike favored science over religion. -
GRADUATED FROM ROXBURY LATIN SCHOOL
Thorndike graduated from Roxbury Latin School in 1981, in west Roxbury, Mass. -
TED GRADUATED FROM WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY
in 1895. -
Thorndike Earned his M.A. at Harvard
In 1897. -
Ted completed his PhD at Columbia University
under supervisor James McKeen Cattell, one of the founding fathers of psychometrics, in 1898. Where he spent his entire career until he retired in 1940. -
Law of Effect was described by Thorndike
and "Puzzle Box" Studies were evaluated in 1898. -
THORNDIKE GOT MARRIED
to Elizabeth Morilton in 1900 and later had 4 children. All of his children earned PhDs, and his second son followed in his footsteps at Columbia University. -
Thorndike became President of the American Psychology Association.
