  • The Queen Anne's Revenge Runs Aground

    Blackbeard, while careening the Queen Anne’s Revenge, ran it aground and abandoned it. He instead rode the sloop the Adventure. This may have been an intentional move to get rid of the ship that had just become so famous for blockading Charleston, or was an embarrassing accident
  • Pardons are Offered to All Pirates

    Pardons for the crimes of piracy are issued in order to curb piracy. Blackbeard would consider, but ultimately not take the pardon, due to the fine print: the crimes pardoned for were committed BEFORE January 5th, which the Charleston bonanza was not. Teach had a plan, however.
  • Blackbeard Uses Stede Bonnet as a Decoy

    To test whether the pardon would work even with the Charleston fiasco, Stede Bonnet would agree to the pardon, which was successful. Upon returning a pardoned man, Teach had marooned Stede's men, run their ship aground, and taken all of their booty. Stede would later return to piracy and was caught for his crimes on this date.
  • Black Beard Meets His End

    Blackbeard finally meets his end and is killed during a battle with Robert Maynard off the coast of Ocracoke Island. He sustained five gunshot wounds and twenty cutlass slashes before death. His head is lopped off at the neck and hung from the bowsprit of Maynard's ship.
