    This was a time where education was about learning new ideas about government and equality to the young people of America. If it wasn't for Thomas Jefferson, education might not be what it is today or even exist. This was a highly important time in educational history because it started to focus more on the students and making sure they were getting an education.

    Horace Mann - "The Father of American Education"
    This was a time in history were "normal schools" were popping up all around the country. Not only was it meant to be a school that implanted it was the birthright of every American child, no matter their background to get a free education. It also acknowledged teaching as a profession. All from the mind of Horace Mann. A crucial moment in history because it started recognizing the fact that every child had to right to attend school and because of Horace Mann, that was made possible.

    Maria Montessori
    Maria Montessori came out with her principal "first the education of the senses, then the education of the intellect. Based around the idea that learning is best when it's focused around the individuality of each child, rather than based on a set standardized curriculum. With that being said, it's important to meet the needs of every student and to ensure they are getting the best learning that is suited for them. Maria Montessori made that possible by expressing her philosophies of learning,

    We have to remember that schools are not just meant to teach students about the basic curriculum. As educators we are more than just a teacher for students. We are meant to help them grow and prepare them for the world. With the character education we as educators can help ensure that we are teaching moral values such as respect, responsibility, discipline, citizenship, ect. That they might not being getting taught at home.

    The Individuals with Disabilities Education act
    Public schools were made to ensure that they would provide free public education for students with disabilities. No matter how you learn and what works best for you, public schools should be required to have programs that meet the needs of these students. This ensures that each student is getting the same amount of education that it needed to achieve their goals. Instead of just have one classroom that is expected to teach every student, it's important to think about the individualized needs.
