    Common schools were funded by local property taxes. They want to advocate for the beginning of public schools. The future of the economy depended on the children education. They need a "common" education. This school was open to all white children and there was no tuition.

    The measurement movement began in 1905. Alfred Binet was the one who stated this movement with some help from Theadore Simon. They measure the intelligence of each person's brain. This also created an IQ test. The IQ test is a type of standard score that indicates how far above, or how far below, his/her peer group an individual stands in mental ability.     The American Federal of Teachers helped to develop additional sub-groups for paraprofessionals, state and federal employees, higher education faculty and staff, and nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organization.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    The Brown vs Board of Education was a very important event in education nation because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously (9–0) that racial segregation in public schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. That prohibits the states from denying equal protection of the laws to any person within their jurisdictions.     The National Defense Education Act was put in place to help enhance and strengthen the schools through funding. This act also motivated many students to continue their education after high school. This was mainly put into affect because of the Soviet Union. The United States wanted to be able to compete with them in the science and technology areas.

    The standards movement started because of the nation at risk report. This helped to set academic standards. The teachers had a better understanding on what the students should know for their grade level. This ensured that the teachers curriculums meet the correct standards.

    The Individual with Disabilities Act was the right for individuals with a disability to a free, public education in a least restricted environment.

    Charter schools are expected to produce certain results, set forth in each school's charter. Charter schools are attended by choice. Minnesota was the first state to pass a charter school law in 1991.

    No Child Left Behind Act
    The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is a United States Act of Congress provided help for disadvantaged students. It supports standards-based education reform based on the premise that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals can improve individual outcomes in education. This Act requires states to develop assessments in basic skills and to get funded after tests.
