    Traditional Public School
    This school type is to follow a set of certain standards and teachers have to meet a specific level of education to be hired. Public schooling is to also follow a standard of curriculum that is decided by the state and local levels. There is no tuition and students are accepted based on where they live in accordance to the school or school district.
  • Parochial School

    Parochial School
    A parochial school is a private religious school that is funded by a local parish. The term parochial refers to the tie to a nearby church.
  • Charter Schools

    Charter Schools
    To get into a Charter school a parent must enroll a child like any other school system, but spots are limited like a private school. Charter schools however are free.     These are private institutions that have a religious affiliation. This school may also be known as an independent private school, but have a tie to an association.

    Private schools are not funded by the government so there is a tuition fee for attending school.The funding comes from the tuition paid by parents. In a private school they follow the national curriculum rather than the state level. Schools that are private may also limit enrollment or set specific requirements to be able to stay in the school. Many private schools have long waiting lists to get in.

    By definition a boarding school is any school that offers food and living to its students, and most require students to live on campus during the school year. These schools are like a small community of scholars, athletes, and artists. The first boarding school intended to integrate the Indian children into the mainstream culture.
  • Montessori School

    Montessori School
    This type of schooling focuses on each child as an individual and their interests. Kids interact with toys and activities of their choosing. The curriculum covers math, science, language and many sensory skills. The teacher stays with the same group of kids for three years to better understand each child and ensure they are learning in the best way possible. Montessori School
  • Waldorf Schools

    Waldorf Schools
    All Waldorf schools in the US are nonprofit. These schools believe in engaging children through age seven physically. The next seven are for emotional growth and then from age 14 on is for pure intellectual growth. Similar to a Montessori School the teacher will stay with a class for 5-8 years.   • Magnet School

    Magnet School
    A magnet school, also known as a talented and gifted school, specializes in a specific subject area such as technology, science or the arts.These schools are free and are operated by one or many school districts around them. Rigorous testing is done for some schools to enroll while others have a random lottery to determine who gets in. The first magnet school was McCarver elementary school in Tacoma, Washington.   • Language Immersion School

    Language Immersion School
    This type of school is for those who's native language is English bit is interested in learning a new language. There are 3 types: total, partial, and two-way. Total is when the younger grades are taught in almost all the native language and the older grades are taught with english instruction. Partial is when 50% of subjects are taught in the foreign language. Two-way emphasizes both languages equally. Academically this schooling scores the same if not better on English portions of tests.
  • Private Special Education School

    Private Special Education School
    These schools main focus is on individuals with special needs. They are commonly focused on specific learning differences like the autism spectrum, ADHD, brain injuries, severe anxiety as well as other neurological differences. Schools of this type are better equipped to meet the learning needs of their students and are a relief for other districts that don't have the best accommodations for students.   • Online Schooling

    Online Schooling
    The University of Phoenix is the first to offer an online bachelor's and master's degrees. They call this their "online campus". Since then more courses have come out for all grades. Online schooling has become more popular for people who have full-time jobs because they have access to their school work 24/7 so they can do their schooling when it works for them
  • Reggio Emilia School

    This is typically a style rather than a school. This type is not the same in every school and is adapted to meet the needs and strengths of each child. The belief is that kids have 100 languages and to make the school work for them.
