In 1803, Edmund Rice was able to open his first school,Mount Sion.
Edmund employed two assistants , they left because they thought the boys were impossible to teach .Two men from Callan joined Edmund who were willing to teach and join a religious congregation.This brought discipline and better behaviour to the boys of Waterford. -

Edmund and his companions moved to the new building the monastery.Teaching spiritual , reading and prayer. -
Takes vowes as member of Diocesan Society
The men made three vows poverty, celibacy and obedience.They gave themselves the name Society of the Presentation.They referred to each other as brother and Edmund took a new name Ignatius. -
Brothers continue work across Ireland.
Edmund transferred the Christian Brothers headquarters from Mount Sion to Dublin.This led to the opening of the Horth Richmond street School. -

First schools etablished in Australia started in 2007.
Erea now governs the school owned by the brothers,with addition to the schools established since 2007 there are 48 schools in 2014, enrolling over 35,000 students through all sates and territories of Australia.
