    The Great Southwest Railroad Strike of 1886
    Labor union strike in which railroad workers went on strike against the railroads owned by Jay Gould. More then 200,00 people were on strike, but the strike failed. The failure of the great Southwest railroad strike represented the first major defeat sustained by the Knights of Labor.
  • The Great Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902

    The Great Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902
    Members of the United Mine Workers of America went on strike in Pennsylvania seeking better wages and improved conditions. The strike was successful, because it was feared that there would be a reduction in energy. The miners recieved a 10% raise.
  • The Steel Strike of 1919

    This strike took place in Pittsburgh, and included 350,000 steel workers, and the strikers shut down half of the country's steel industry. The workers had long hours, low wages, and poor working conditions. The strike was unsucessful due to corporate scare tactics used against them.

    This strike included 400,000 strikers and happened when wages were cut for railroad shop workers. Instead of negotiating, the companies replaced 3/4 of workers with non-union workers. The workers settled with a 5 cent pay cut.

    A strike that included 400,000 strikers and stretched across the Eastern Seaboard. Workers were protesting long hours and low wages and persisted 20 days until its failure.
