The Pullman Strike
A nationwide railroad strike. -
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
A factory caught fire in which women were working. The owner had locked them in their working areas. When the flames reached their rooms the women began to jump out of the windows to escape burning alive only to fall to their deaths. 145 were killed that day but lead to many changes in working conditions that ensure safety today. -
Ludlow Massacre
Attack by the Colorado National Guard on the tent colony of 1200 coal miners on strike. -
Immigration During the Labor Movement
There was a large amount of cheap and unskilled labor entering the US. People's jobs were not protected because they could be easily replaced. Unions experienced an increase. -
The Norris-Laguardia Act
Owners could not prohibit workers from joining unions -
The Wagner Act
Workers right to form unions and strikes are protected. -
The Fair Labor Standards Act
Minimum wage established, overtime, and child labor laws put into place. -
World War II
World War 2 brought a decline in popularity for Unions.
