Potato Famine
The potato blight causes a potato famine. The population drops from over 8 million to 6 million from deaths and epople emigrating. The British failed to aide the Irish Financially and tensions rose. -
World War 1
In 1914 WW1 starts, it ends 4 years later in 1918. WW! occupied British forces causing them to not be able to control Ireland with more power. WW1 also made Britain weeker because they lost their forces in the battle. -
Easter Rising
This was the first major Irish Rebellion since 1798. It leads to the Irish war of independance and soon after the civil war. -
War of Independence
From 1919-1921, The Irish lead a guerilla warfare campaign against the British to establish independence and sovereignty as a nation. This is the first major success from the Irish People for their independence. -
Peace Treaty
In 1921, the Irish and English agreed on terms and created and signed a peace treaty. Although this created peace, there were still six territories in Northern Ireland controlled by Britain. They were far from peace. -
Civil War
Civil war breaks out, this happens because Ireland is finally a free state from Britain besides from the north. IT was believed the the piece treaty would casue piece in all places but instead it caused this war. -
The Troubles
During the 1960's violence broke out between the republicans and loyalist paramilitaries for the fight for Northern Ireland and the South.
