Early Renaissance
City states often became places of great partonage in the Early Renaissance. The Medici in Florence commissioned much artwork. Humanism, with its emphasis on the power of human skill and strength, influenced art. New techniques used by artists included atmosphereic and linear perspective. Portraits became popular in this period. Artists became increasingly interested in depicting scientific and poetic elements in their paintings. -
