Isabel's brother Enrique was King of Castilla. He named Isabel as his hair. Wen Enrique died in 1474, Isabel declared that she was queen. But Enrique's daughters Juana also wanted to be queen. There was a war between their supporters. Isabel won the war in 1479. In the same year her husband Fernando became king of Aragón.

Fernando and Isabel were intolerant towards other religions. They wanted religious unity in their Kingdom. They estabilished the inquisition in 1478. In 1492 Fernando and Isabel expeled Jewish.
