Early Women's Dresses
Women wore elaborately pleated dresses with high collars and tight sleeves. There was a bustle underneath the dresses which made the backside of the dress larger. Vansky, Chloe E. Women's Dresses
Dresses remained similar to those in the 1870s with a few adjustments. They were mainly made with silk, cotton, and velvet, and the bustle was heavier so that the dress was sturdier. Many dresses weighed in between fifteen to twenty pounds. Vansky, Chloe E. "Evolution of Fashion from the 1870s to the 1920s." Web log post. Chloe's Blog. Blogger, 21 Oct. 2012. Underdrawers became popular with men during this time period. The styles varried; some were long, some were short. Men would also wear undervests throughout the year. Women's skirt
Instead of silk, velvet, and cotton, skirts began to be made out of satin and lace. The skirts began to become even slimmer and necklines rose and collars became popular. This new look became "daring and fancy." Vansky, Chloe E. "Evolution of Fashion from the 1870s to the 1920s." Web log post. Chloe's Blog. Blogger, 21 Oct. 2012.
