    The Austrian Anschluss-March
    In February 1938 Hitler said that he would destroy German speaking people and the people of Austria and Czechoslovakia. He wanted to expand Germany and he thought the only way to do it is to take other lands by force. He wanted Austrian Nazi's to have important high ranking roles in the government. The Austrian chancellor did as he said but then put the unification to a democratic vote. Hitler was scared and sent troops to Austria and announced the unification of Austria and Germany.

    Hitler now claimed that he has Sudetenland because it has a large German speaking population. The prime minister pledged the support from Britain to France as its ally. The representatives from Britain, France, Italy, and Germany agreed to meet in Munich to decide what they were going to do with Czechoslovakia. The Munich conference Britain and France agreed to Hitler's demands. They made a policy known as appeasement they made concessions in exchange for peace.

    Hitler demanded that they have the city Danzig. This demand made it clear to Britain and France that war is inevitable. Britain said that if Poland got invaded and went to war then Britain and France would come to help. This made Poland refuse Hitler’s demands. In May Hitler and his army invaded Poland. He also ordered His higher ups to start negotiations with the USSR because if Hitler was going to war with Britain and France he didn't want to go to war with Russia too.

    The Germans sent the Ussr an agreement and Stalin agreed. Stalin believed this was the best way to protect the soviets. Now the capitalist nations would go after each other and the USSR would be safe. August 1939 the nonaggression pact was signed this shocked the world. The deal also contained a secret that Germany and the USSR were going to divide Poland and take it over
  • The invasion of Poland

    The invasion of Poland
    September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland then Britain and France declared war on Germany and this was the official start of WWII. Poland tried to fight back but then was overcomed by Germany’s army. The Germans were using a totally new way of warfare called blitzkrieg. This new way of war was that the Germans surround the enemy with tanks so they can't go anywhere and then they bomb the middle and send paratroopers down to finish of the rest. Poland was fully defeated October 5, 1939.

    The French decided to play it defensively and stay on the Maginot line. But Hitler decide to go around the line and to do that he would have to invade the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The French did not think that the tanks would be able to attack through the Ardennes mountains and left few soldiers there. But Hitler’s main attack was over there. The Germans smashed through and the British and French couldn't get back quick enough they where now trapped in Belgium.

    The british and French were trapped in Belgium and decide to get out by sea. But Hitler took all of the ports but Dunkirk’s, so Hitler commanded to go capture but then told them to stop. Nobody knows why Hitler told them to stop but some people think he could have peace with them if he didnt humiliate them. This allowed Britain to evacuate and to strength there forces. They evacuated 338,000 troops and this was called the Miracle of Dunkirk.

    The Germans knew that the British would not surrender and they decided to invade them by the English channel. Germany first had to destroy Britain's fleet and they had an all out air war and this was known as the battle of Britain. The germans accidentally bombed London which is the capital of Britain and in response Britain bombed Berlin. Hitler wanted to terrorize the people of Britain into surrendering but they endured. The British never gave up and eventually Hitler ended the invasion.
