    Hitler threatened to invade german speaking austria unless austrian nazis were given important government posts. Austrians chencallor gave hitler what he wanted, but then lrft the matter of unification with germany to a democratic vote. Hitler then sent troops to austria and announced the unification of Austria and Germany

    At the conference Britain and France agreed to Hitlers demands that were known as appeasement. They made concessions in exchange for peace. People felt like Hitler had few demands, and that if they gave him what he wanted, they would avoid war.

    A month after the munich conference, hitler demanded danzig from poland. Britain announced that if Poland went to war with Germany, France and Britain would help out Poland. Poland ended up refusing hitlers demands. Hitler then started to prepare his army to invade Poland.

    The pact was signed by Germany and USSR. This shocked the world. Britain and France did not know that the treaty contained a secret deal to divide Poland between Germany and the Soviet Union.On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland. Then two days later, World War 2 began with France and Britain declaring war on Germany.

    Polands army was way too outdated to hold Germany. The Polish were still using horses and lances against the German tanks. Also the Germans used lightning war to break through the enemy positions as well as airplane bomings. The polish couldnt hold the Germans and lost their capital on September 27. The Germans had defeted the Polish army by October 5, 1939.

    Britain sent troops to France while they waited for Germany's attack. After WW1 France built a maginot line along the German border. But instead of attacking Germany, the french decided to wait, which wasent a smart idea. The Germans ended up just going through belgium. The French had only left a few troops behind to protect the Belguim border. The germans completely crushed through the border. They then learned that they were trapped in Belgium and couldnt get back to France.

    German forces closed in on Dunkirk, and then Hitler ordered his army to stop. This delay gave the british 3 days to evacuate and strengthen their lines. 850 ships of many sizes operated by civilian volunteers headed to Dunkirk from England. Many made multiple trips. When the evacuation ended on June 4, 338,000 french and british troops were saved known as the Miracle of Dunkirk. While they got 338,000 troops out of Dunkirk, they left behind tons of ammunition and surrendered Northern France.

    This battle of Britain was a battle between the German luftwaffe and the Britain Royal Air Force. The problem with the Luftwaffe was that they werent trained for long range battles, which was part of the battle. They were trained for CQC. Hitler recognized that the battle was not going in his favor with 1733 aircrafts of his being destroyed. He then indefidentely postponed the invasion in Britain.
