The Foundation of Education
Martian Luther, John Amios Comenius, and John Locke are some of the influential people who would bring in new thoughts and theories laying down a foundation of education. Starting a new way of thinking in terms of educational growth. -
Friedrich Fröbel
Friedrich Frobel started the first "kindergarten" in Germany and would pave the way for future early educators. He also created Froebel Gifts, a type of building blocks. -
Maria Montessori
Maria started a completely different way educating. Showing that children should learn in areas they have interest and likes in and be respected. Montessori school system is being used in over 4,000 early childhood education programs. -
Jean Piaget
Jean created the Theory of Cognitive Development based on ages and stages. Children are in his words “little scientist” and literally grow their own intellect. This began the movement to match education to children’s stages. -
Abraham Maslow
Abraham was a psychologist who became known for his theory on self-actualization based on needs motivation. Basically stating that the basic needs must be met in order to retain more information. Paving the way for teacher to start curriculums and programs. -
Erik Erikson
Mr Erikson is best known for his theory of physical development-cognitive development occurs with social development. Basically stating that play supports growth and that all children need consistency, love, education and care to grow. -
Child Care and Development Grant
This grant helps low income families with the cost of childcare. Allowing more children to have the opportunity to learn and grow and help the financial stress childcare can put on a family. -
No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
The Act required states to develop assessments in basic skills. This was so the school would receive government funding. The bill was signed and put into effect by George W Bush
