English Colony At Jamestown, Virginia
A group of around 100 people ventured to the first North Americans decided to settle by the James River. Within the years of living there, many got sick and fought with the Native American tribes who were already settled there, and thus, the population kind of died off slowly. By 1610, a new batch of settles migrated to North America and this time well prepared with supplies. This was the New World ready to be populated and explored. -
First Africans brought to North America
After gaining more and more people migrating to North America, plantations were needed in order to: 1. Make a living and 2. Survive for themselves. Thus these plantations owners needed slaves. Slaves were first introduced by an English Warship who brought them here and the slaves did the plantation owners' dirty work. -
Pilgrims Land at Plymouth
The Pilgrims apparently did not plan on landing at Plymouth Rock, where they eventually permanently settled, The story goes that when the Pilgrims sailed on the Mayflower, rough winds and storms threw them off course and in conclusion, the captain turns the ship around and lands in Plymouth where the pilgrims decided to settle instead of reaching where they havd originally wanted to go. -
Salem Witch Trials
Witch trials originated in Salem, Massachusetts, where 3 young women were accused of being possessed. Those women were later hung. It eventually got so bad even the men and children were involved in this "witchcraft and sorcery". Eventually the towns people were sick and tired of all these trials and turned against them but even so, the court continued to prosecute people. -

French and Indian War
This was a war between Great Britain and France. With small conflicts such as claiming land, a series of small skirmishes turned into an all out war. It was also called the Seven Years' War. The outcome of this war was a victory to the British with the help of future Minster, William Pitt. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was not a large scale fight but a street fight where more and more British troops marched into Boston which somewhat bothered the colonist since they had to let the troops stay in their home under the quartering act. With more and more troops coming in, the colonist started a riot to attack the British soliders but in the end result, 3 colonists were killed when the troops had shot into the mob of people who were overwhelming them. -
Boston Tea Party
The people of Boston did not want to surrender to the patriotism of the British importing their tea and taxing them due to the Tea Act. During the night of December 16, 1773, Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Native American Indians and boarded 3 ships which contained tea and threw it overboard (342 chests) which then angered the British and pushed both sides closer to a possible war. -
The Declaration of Indepdence
Declaration of INDEPENDENCE
During this time, the Revolutionary War had been in action with the colonist edging more and more towards than their own indepdence from Great Britain. With this, the Continental Congress had to make a decision and thus a 5-man commitee was established including: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston. Active on July 4th, 1776. -
Revolutionary War Ends (Treaty of Paris)
The end of the Revolutionary War came to an end not with a victory or defeat, but a negotiation between the United States and Great Britain. This treaty was called the "Treaty of Paris" which was a negotation of 3/5 Continental Congress (Adams, Franklin, and Jay took part in) which lead to the recognition of American Indepdence by Great Britain. -

Shay's Rebellion
After serving in the wars that have passed, farmers returned back into their land to farm but when they got back, the government demanded for high taxes. The part that got hit hardest was Massachusetts where their harvest was terrible and there was economic depression occured with the chance of the farmers losing their land. Then a man named Daniel Shay stepped up to lead a group of 4,000 men and infiltrate the U.S. national weapons arsenal in Springfield. In the end, Shay was hung. -
Consitution Ratified
The new Constituion was described and created a strong and centralized government with an intricate system of checks and balances. This new Constitution was signed by 38 out of 41 delegates present at the end of the convention (Constitutional Convention) and 9 out of the 13 states had to be ratified in order for the document to be binded and take effect. -
Whiskey Rebellion
This event was also known as the Whiskey Insurrection which was a tax protest in the US. They started taxing for the import of Whiskey because of the fact that it was the most popular distilled berverage during this time. Most farmers and veterans of the war(s) were against this tax. "No taxation without representation" is a famous quote that was used because they didn't like the idea of taxing. Rebellions then therefore did not allow the government to collect the taxes they needed in the end. -

Lewis and Clark Expedition
Two men named Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out on an expedition to explore more of the United States which is known as the Western side of the United States in the 21st century. They departed in May 1804 on the Mississippi River towards the Pacific Coast of the United States of America where they discovered newly, unclaimed land. This expedition was supported by Thomas Jefferson and their goal was to settle in the new land before the Britains and the French. -
War of 1812
This was a war waged between Great Britain and the United States. This war was fought because of the reasons that the Britains restricted trade from the Americas since Britain was in a war with the French during this time. The Britains did not like the looks of America being able to trade with the French for supplies and weapons therefore the United States entered the war in order to prove their independence. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 allowed the state of Missour to enter the Union as a slave state HOWEVER, there would be no more slave states would come in above the lattitude of 30 degrees. This meant the North were free states and the South were the slavery states. -
Trail of Tears
The Trial of Tears was the forced series of relocations for the Native Americans from their land since more and more people from Europe started to come to the United States to populate it. This followed under the Indian Removal Act of 1830. All the tribes were forced to move West of the Mississippi River that was degsinated as "Indian Territory" appointed by the United States. -
Texas Independence
During the Texas Independence, Texas decided to secede from Mexico and declared their Independence. The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed at Washington-on-the-Brazos, now commonly referred to as the “birthplace of Texas.” Similar to the United States Declaration of Independence, this document focused on the rights of citizens to “life” and “liberty” but with an emphasis on the “property of the citizen." -

Mexican American War (Treaty of Guadalupa Hildelgo)
During the United States (Eastern side) belief in Manifest Destiny, the United States encountered little battles along the Rio Grande with Mexico. It was a series of U.S. victories and in the end, Mexico had to give up land which is now modern day California, NV, UT, etc. The Treaty of Guadalupa Hildelgo was signed which the Mexican government agreed to sell their land over to the United States. -
Gold Rush in California
During the year of January 24th, 1848, a man named James Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. With the new news being found out, it spread like a disease and people started to sail across the United States . This attracted about 300,000 people which were called the 49's. But not only did this event attract American's but it also attracted people from around the world like Asia, Europre, Latin America, etc. -
Compromise of 1850
During the Compromise of 1850, the U.S. gained territory from Mexico which allowed California to enter as a free state but again, this upset the balance between the free and slave states and angered the Southerns who did not have the "advantage" or the same ratio. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
The Kansas Nebraska Act overturned the slavery restrictions of the Missouri compromise by introducing popular soviernty. Which mean the white males, plantation owners, would decided as a whole and the majority that ruled the vote would either get slavery or not have slavery in the state. -
Abraham Lincoln Elected President
The year 1860, was a big presidential election between 4 different candidates, one including Abraham Lincoln. During this election, Abraham Lincoln won the election thus not pleasing the Southerners since he was the president who wanted slavery gone. During his term on presidency, he created the Emancipation Proclaimtion "freeing" slaves. -

Civil WarCivil War fought in America between the Union and the Confederate soliders. This Civil War was fought for because the South wanted to keep slavery but the North was not trying to fight to abolish slavery, but to preserve the Union in order to have a strong, centralized government so there was no downfall from all the events that happened which lead up to American Independence from Great Britain. -
Transcontinental Railroad Completed
The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad allowed for citizens from the East to travel to the West. Riding on this train was more effective and less dangers than riding something like a bandwagon there. -

After all of everything was said and done (ha, just kidding, everything was fought over for), the United States lived in "peace" til the next time a war or a tragic accident him them.
