Election of 1800
The Election of 1800 had Thomas Jefferson against John Adams. Jefferson Defeated Adams, but tied with his running mate Aaron Burr. Jefferson defeated Burr after 6 days in the House of Representatives. -
Marbury v Madison
Thomas Jefferson was filling jobs for judges the night before his presidency ended, and he wrote for William Marbury to become a judge. James Madison did not agree and took the case all the way to the Supreme court. Marbury took his office and the case established the use of Judicial Review in courts. -
Louisiana Purchase
By 1803, Napoleon Bonaparte had given up his dream of an American Empire. He offered Jefferson the entire Louisiana Territory for $15,000,000. Jefferson did the deal and doubled the size of the nation. -
Madison Elected
James Madison was elected president after two terms of president Thomas Jefferson. Madison was president from 1808-1816. He is known as the "Father of the Constitution" for his role in the drafting and ratifying of the document. -
War of 1812
The War of 1812 was a war between the United States of America and the British Empire. It waged on from 1812-1814. The War ended in a stalemate. Although it is not clearly known who won, it is clear that the Native Americans lost their chance at their own country. -
The Burning of the White House
On August 24, 1814, the British made their way to the nation's capital. They then proceeded to torch the White House. Luckily, Dolly Madison escaped with the painting of Washington and some of the silverware. -
The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was articulated on Dec. 2, 1823. It stated that no European countries could colonize the American continent. The US said that it would use force if necessary to defend. -
Andrew Jackson's Election
Andrew Jackson was elected president of the US on Dec. 2, 1828. Andrew Jackson was a controversial president who did many things during his presidency, he was known as the hero of the common man, he removed the national bank, and he sent Native Americans westward.
