  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    Congress was not worried that the courts might over turn the Civil Rights Act. It gave them another amendment to the Constitution which states raified in 1868. Another part of the 14th amenment said thst no state could take a persons life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    These laws were brought in to action, because they were trying to help control the newly freed African Americans. Life under the black code was just a little better than slavery was. The officals were aloud to fine or even arrest the africa americans who did not have jobs.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1866

    The congress was trying to protect the rights of the southern African Americans.In 1866 they passed a bill that gave Freedman's Bureau new powers.It gave the fedral government the power to get involved in state affairs to protect the african Americans.
  • reconstruction acts (1st and 2nd)

    It was a act to provide more efficient governments to the southern states. A key feture was the creation of five millitary districts in the south.And in addition the congress made every state make a new draft of the state constitotion.
  • 15th ammendment

    This ammendment stops the government from keeping someone from voting. Congress always debated the right of millions of black former slaves.
