    In 1947, post World War II, Imre Lakatos worked as a senior official within the Hungarian Ministry of Eudcation. During the years of 1948 and 1949, Imre continued his education by earning a PhD at Debrecen University, and also studying at the Moscow State University. During this time Imre was also a very active member in the Communist party.

    Imre Lakatos has two large and famous claims to fame in the philosophical world. The first of these is his particular Philosophy on Mathematics where he expounds his view of the progression of mathematics. This work was based on his doctoral thesis “Essays in the Logic of Mathematical Discovery.”
  • Professor of Logic at the Lodon School of Economics

    After working as an assistant lecturer in the same department as Karl Popper, he later was appointed as the Professor of Logic at the London School of Economics. It was also during this time he was renowned across the globe as a Philosopher of Science.

    The Methodology of Scientific Research
    Lakatos’ second claim to fame and a major work in the world of the philosophy of science was his “Methodology of Scientific Research Programs.” This was his effort to improve on Popper and his method of falsification.
