  • College Education

    In high school Dorothy Height was a strong speaker and used her voice to influence people around her , She won the National Oratory Competition which Granted her a scholarship to Barnard College , however she was denied . In result she carried her studies to NYU where she earned two degrees.
  • Early Worklife

    Her degrees allowed her to work in the social worker field , which is where she met the founder of the National Council of Negro Women Mary McLeod Bethune and U.S. first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and in result she started her work with the YWCA and the NCNW .https://www.womenshistory.org/education-resources/biographies/dorothy-height
  • Spread Of the YWCA

    Between her joint work with the YWCA and NCNW she was able to create diverse programs and was the leader of these local organizations.   • Fourth President Of NCNW

    Dorothy was a motivated woman , activist , influence and speaker , her hard work and leadership landed her a position of the fourth president of the NCNW which she then continued to work at and lead for 4 decades after this.
  • Wednesdays in Mississippi

    Dorothy winning attitude was able to combine and bring difference races together to shine light on Black freedom struggle ,she then created a group called Wednesdays in Mississippi which where a group of black and white females that shed light on public issues .http://classweb.uh.edu/wims/

    Although Dorothy Height was a strong motivated leader and speaker and was included in the big six , which where the top activist of the time , she wasn't allowed to speak at DR.Martin Luther Kings speech where she took part in constructing .     Dorothy Height took part in a lot of speeches and work that these public figures ( all men ) because she was a woman , she wasn't allowed to publicly speak , she deiced to not let this stop her and took a team with her to Selma Alabama where she influenced President Dwight D. Eisenhower to desegregate schools and President Lyndon B. Johnson to appoint African-American women to positions in government.
  • Influenced Medicine

    Because of Dorothy Heights audience , she was able to include some participation in medicine , She was named the national commission for the protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research, which published the Belmont Report a response to the "Tuskegee Syphilis Study'' This is huge for someone like her , her work and influence is still being used to this day. https://www.jstor.org/stable/3561468?seq=1
  • Lincoln Park

    Shortly after she accomplished this her work was nearly done , she then decided to get a group of her follow peers and constructed the organizing of a campaign in Lincoln Park . Over 8000 people where in attendance .In result of her hard work and influence , she was one of the first woman to get a statue on federal land.
  • Semi Retirement

    Dorothy Height kept all of her hard work and traveled up for a long time.The way she balanced everything on her shoulder was incredible . Although she seemed like a superwoman in eyes , she retired from the YWCA after nearly two decades . She continued her work at the NCNW and then formed with other black activist creating the Black leadership forum . Her work earned her many medals and her influence is still felt all around .
