Mexican Independence
Moses Austin wants to start a colony. Spain ave him permission to start one and in 1821 Mexico gets Independence -
Americans and Tejanos Unhappy
The Americans and Tejanos were both unhappy. Mexico abolishes slavery and closes American Immigration to Texas. They also require Texans to pay taxes and they sent more Mexican troops. -
The 12 Day Fight
Texas wants to break away. Mexico sends 6,000 troops to Texas to fight with the Americans. Both sides meet at Alamo in San Antonio and they fight for 12 days. All Texas men die and this showed the Texans they would need to fight for freedom. -
Lone Star Republic
After the battle of San Jacinto, there was a treaty signed to give Texas freedom. Sam Houston becomes the President. Texas wants to be a part of the US but slavery is an issue. Congress says no and Texas becomes the Lone Star Republic. -
Battle of San Jacinto
Santa Ana moves to Goliad ande executes 300 Texans. Santa Ana and Houston meet up near the San Jacinto River. In just 18 minutes the Texans kill 1/2 of the Mexican Army because they fight and yell "remember the alamo" and this brings even more rage to the Texans and it keeps them going. -
Manifest Destiny
John O' Sullivan creates the slogan Manifest Destiny and it drove Americans to move West. -
Texas Becomes a State
In 1845, Texas becomes a slave state and is added to the US. Mexico still claimed Texas a border dispute. Zachary Taylor is sent to Rio Grande and Mexico sees as an act of war and they ambush the American Soldiers. Congress then declares war, -
Republic of California
John C. Fremont lead the Bear Flag Revolt in California. Califronia was declared as independent and is called the Republic of California. -
Taking New Mexico
General Stephen Kearny leads an army West through the Santa Fe Trail. They take New Mexico without force! -
The Mexican Cession
The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American War. Texas was now part of the Us and Rio Grande. The US paid Mexico more than 15 million dollars and they protected Mexicans living in Texas and Mexican Cession.
