Rachel Finds the Note
Rachel returns home from the grocery store after dropping Marley off at school. She finds a note on the refrigerator, "Don't try to find me. I'll be okay. I'll be better. I love you." The note is written in Marley's handwriting. Rachel immediately starts to panic. -
Marley Starts the Journal
Marley begins writing in her journal. She begins recounting her actions and letting the reader see into her thoughts. She initially is confident in her decision but as her journey continues, through her journal, the reader is able to see her doubts. -
Marley Gets on Bus
Marley arrives at the bus station and buys a ticket for North Carolina. She sits on the bus and observes the other people on the bus. She begins to get nervous when several men get on the bus and all congregate in the back of the bus. -

Rachel and Paul begin actively searching for Marley. Paul begins using the local media and social media to try and find her. Paul creates a website to try and bring Marley home. -
Marley Meets Kyle
Marley has been on the bus for a few hours. She meets a boy around her age named Kyle. Her and Kyle begin talking and bond over their similar stories. -
Rachel Calls Dr. Michael
Rachel is devastated because the police appear to be doing very little to help find Marley. Rachel calls Dr. Michael and confides in him. He gives her advice and tries to calm her down. -
Rachel's Interview
Rachel is interviewed on a local news channel. She comes across very suspicious and uneasy. Immediatley after the interview, Rachel is attacked on social media. She becomes a suspect in the investigation. -
Marley Arrives in North Carolina
Marley arrives in North Carolina. She sees Brandon at the bus station and is overwhelmed with excitement. Initially, Brandon does not seem to share her excitement and Marley begins to worry. -
Media Discovers the Pills
Rachel's pill addiction comes to light in the media. Her supplier is also revealed. The media further attacks her and she becomes even more of a suspect. -
Brandon and Marley Take a Trip
Marley and Brandon leave the apartment and take a trip to the beach. Marley begins to see Brandon's true colors as their relationship progresses. -
Marley Finds Out the Truth
Marley discovers Brandon's uniform and discovers he is not who he says he is. Marley finds that he does not attend college, was recently released from jail, and is actually 28. -
Marley Escapes
Marley stages a scene to make it look like she attempted to kill herself. Brandon takes her body and leaves it in front of a hospital and drives away. -
Marley Returns
Marley is found in a library. The local police contact her parents and they fly to North Carolina and bring her home.
