    This event was a civil rights protest, African Americans refused to use the Montgomery city buses in Alabama. Four days before the boycott occurred, Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the front of the bus. With the arrest of Rosa Parks, set off a chain of events that happened in Alabama.

    Congress approved the initiative to use some $30 billion to construct 41,000 miles of interstate highways. At that time, that was the biggest public construction project in US history.

    In that year, the US launched its first of many satellites. President Eisenhower signed a public order to create the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This was a federal agency dedicated for space explorations.

    This Act was to strengthen voting rights and to spread the enforcement of the powers of the Civil Rights Act of 1957. This included provisions for federal inspections of local registrations rolls and authorized court-appointed referees to help African Americans to register and vote.
