Groups of operators started a new business directed towards tourism services. The business consisted in ground operators (or handlers) offering airport meet and greets, transportation, tours and recreation. -
DMC was coined in USA
This business started growing and improving, adding more events to their list of services. The term "Destination Management" was coined by Phill Lee to help describe the role this business played in tourism. -
The Economic Boom
During the economic boom DMC's companies kept expanding, making their role in the meeting, convention and incentive travel industry a lot more important.
Because of how big it flourished and a lot of companies were using it, they changed it to DMCP so that it would certify the company. -
Period: to
Recession
Companies had way more competition, so organizations were forced to create budgets and other suppliers began doing the same. Even some DMCs started traveling with their clients -

Globalization on the rise
The industry has become more complex, with risk management and financial oversight. Clients have reported that its not efficient to have many DMC suppliers, also they prefer to work with localy owned DMCs
