Germany's invasion of Poland
The invasion on Poland was where Germany attempted to take land for themselves, They bombed Polish airfields, and German warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces in the Baltic Sea. To Hitler, the conquest of Poland would bring living space for the German people. Many of Poland's recourses and military artilary was desroyed -
German Blitzkrieg
Germany plans to invade Poland. Germany invaded from the West and the Soviet Union invaded from the East. They planned to divide Poland. "Lightening Warfare" and in conclusion Great Britain and France declare war on Germany. -
Fall of Paris
German troops took over France and defeated Allied troops. Germany wanted to expand military power. Germany captures France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, bringing land operations on the Western Front to an end. -
Pearl Harbor
The US Pacific Naval Fleet was stationed in Pearl harbor. Japanese sent in bombers, U-Boats, and ships to destroy the fleet. Japanese destroyed 19 ships, 188 planes, and wounded 1,100 and killed 2,400 men. As a result US declares war and drops 2 atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. -
Allied Invasion of Italy
Allied powers wanted to take Control of more land so they attack and invade Italy. More troops were moving East so the Allies decided to move West of the Soviet Union and take Italy, Sicily, and have power over the German troops in France. Took over Sicily and soon attack and defeat German troops in France. -
D-Day
The invasion included 150,00 soldiers; 5,00 ships; 11,000 planes and gliders. Known as "Operation Overlord". The US wanted to get Nazi Germans out of Normandy. As a result Normandy was cleared of all Nazis. -
Battle of the Bulge
Hitlers last attempt to defeat the allies in Europe. 600,000 Americans fought in the battle; 8,000 killed. Germans lost 100,000. Germans lost because they ran out of fuel!!! -
Battle of Iwo Jima
United States took control of the island Iwo Jima from Imperial Japanese Arsenal. Happened as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor. United States controlled another Japanese island and had an advantage on enemies. -
Battle of Okinawa
The Japanese Imperial Arsenal attempted to put an end to Americas island hopping. The United States did not stop because they wanted the advantage on Japan. The Japanese was soon pushed out of Okinawa and the U.S. took over. -
VE-Day
Day when German Nazis officially surrendered to Allied forces. Allied forces were too powerful for the Nazis and they had no choice but to surrender. Allies took control of Germany and their troops. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
America threatens to drop bombs on Japan if they did not surrender and they didn't so we did. After Pearl Harbor the U.S. was fighting Japan and soon they decided to just use bombs instead of wasting time and troops and it worked. Japan eventually surrendered after two atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. -
VJ-Day
The final official surrender of Japan after the two atomic bombings. The Japanese Government overruled the army generals and surrendered. The U.S. finally ended the war with Japan.
