The main forms of social media that were used include Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Main tactics used were organizing protests and hashtags such as #BlackLivesMatter. -
Portland Protest "Wall of Moms"
During the Portland Protest for Black Lives Matter, a group of mothers came together and formed a barrier by linking arms. This became known as the "Wall of Moms". The main social medial outlet used was Facebook, which was used to organize the group and had the participants come together on July 18th, 2020. -
Hong Kong Protest
In Hong Kong, protesters take to the streets after new security law is passed. Rumors started through Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Telegram have begun to spread fake news and false information. -
Cuba's Protest
A call for democracy and freedom started a protest in Cuba. Cubans are wanting to end the communist rule and adopt a democratic one. Instagram is the main social media source, where pictures and videos are being uploaded by the account named "lospichyboys". -
Ukraine War
From the war in Ukraine, we see a variety of different social media outlets being used in different ways to achieve specific agendas. Such as a "deepfake" video being posted on Twitter showing the president asking the people of Ukraine to put down their weapons, or a Tik Tok video of a woman showing show to start an armored vehicle.
