MeToo was a movement that came into the mainstream around 2017-2018 and was used on various social media platforms to bring light to injustices of sexual harassment. It was also a catchphrase widely seen at the Women's Marches in 2017 and 2018 as well. -
Parkland Shooting Walkouts
On February 14, 2018, there was a mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School. This led to a lot of online posts and protest against guns and to increase security within schools. Over the course of February 2018 and into March there were walkouts scheduled at schools by students through the use of social media. -
Climate Change Protests
Climate change has been a very mainstream topic the past few years and has seen many different forms of protests and disruptions online on many different social media platforms. A very notable person who has helped influence this is Greta Thunberg. -
Black Lives Matter
B.L.M was a major social media disruption most notably where they promoted it through the use of posting a completely black photo to your social media page. This was also mainly due to the controversial death of George Floyd. -
Uvalde School Shooting
Another tragic shooting at an elementary school in May 2022 came with more social media rage and protest. This time the protest was even stronger for the ban of automatic weapons, and stricter gun laws in general for the state of Texas.
