Me Too Movement
The Me Too movement is a movement to raise awareness about sexual abuse and sexual harassment. It was founded by Tarana Burke in 2006. Even though it was founded in 2006, it didn't get a whole lot of attention until 2017 when a Hollywood actress brought to light and attention to it on Twitter. -
Gun Laws
In 2018 there were lots of changes with the gun laws. A lot of this was due to the Florida school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The students were the ones to riase awareness and stnad up to fight for gun laws. People came together to fight for gun order. A lot of the conversations to raise awareness were due to social media and took place on social media. -
COVID-19 Pandemic/Vaccine
COVID-19 lockdown started in 2020. During this pandemic, lots of people were out of work so people had nothing better to do. As a result of this everyone turned to social media. People tried to use it for good as well and talk about the virus that was spreading and tried to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated and the good that can come of it. Social media was one of the biggest reasons that all of this information was being spread and amplified. -
Black Lives Matter Movement
The Black Lives Matter movement was created before 2020, but it really came to life in 2020 when George Floyde was killed. This movement was amplified and I think this was especially due to COVID-19. Everyone was at home and paying attention to the media. The media played such a big role in this disruption and people started a trend of posting a black square all over social media to raise awareness. This helped bring a lot of attention to the cause. -
Trump vs. Biden
Trump and Biden were running against each other in the presidential election. Things got very close and they were both using social media platforms to push out their messages in hopes of gaining people's votes. Both the republicans and democrats were heavily using social media during these times as well.
