    This was a big one, in my opinion, this is where politics became very divisive on social media. I think of Facebook specifically, people getting into fights in the comments, people unfriending lifelong friends over differing political opinions, etc.
    This was another time where this is all you heard about on social media.
  • 2017 - Me Too Movement

    2017 - Me Too Movement
    The "me too" movement was started in 2006 but brought back into the foreground in 2017. It is a social media movement that went viral on Instagram with the #metoo. It was used to fight against sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and rape culture.
  • 2020 - Black Lives Matter

    2020 - Black Lives Matter
    Another big social media disruption was the Black Lives Matter movement. This was a huge debate. People posted things on their stories and make posts about it. there was a blackout day where people posted black images to show their support.
  • 2020 - COVID19

    2020 - COVID19
    The COVID19 Pandemic came in 2020 and was heavily discussed on social media. People were sharing their experiences, and debating. Instagram even censored information based on certain words used. For a while, this was all that was being talked about on social media.
  • 2022 - Roe v Wade

    2022 - Roe v Wade
    And finally, this year, Roe v Wade being overturned brought a lot of debate to the social media world. People from both sides shared their opinions, rallies, and protests were organized on social media. it was huge. I know that I personally got my information from social media about all of it.
