    George Floyd
    On May 25, Minneapolis police officers arrested George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, after a convenience store employee called 911 and told the police that Mr. Floyd had bought cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill. Seventeen minutes after the first squad car arrived at the scene, Mr. Floyd was unconscious and pinned beneath three police officers, showing no signs of life.

    Black Friday Amazon Protests
    In anticipation of Black Friday, the day-after-Thanksgiving shopping event that was largely moved online this year, a coalition of Amazon warehouse workers and climate activists organized a day of action called #MakeAmazonPay.

    India's farmers protest
    Indian farmers protested new laws that they said would hurt their livelihood. The protests, called some of the largest in world history, began in 2020 but continued into early 2021. In response to marches in February, the government cut off the internet at protest sites around New Delhi. Delhi police went so for as to launch a criminal investigation against the creators of an online toolkit aimed at helping the farmers' cause.

    In Texas, political leaders targeted trans children and their families with a call to treat gender-affirmation treatments as child abuse. Meanwhile, Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law banned the discussion of sexuality and gender identity by public school teachers. Students organized walkouts in Florida school districts; community protests took over state capitols; and even Disney employees stepped out to protest their employer's response to the discriminatory bill.

    First, a leaked draft opinion by Supreme Court justices implied a terrifying reversal of Roe v. Wade protections. One month later, the court officially eliminated the constitutional right to abortion. In true fashion, reproductive justice activists, nonprofits, celebrities, and everyday folks gathered together to demand the right to safe reproductive healthcare and abortion access in whatever ways they could. From donation drives to nationwide protests, the #BansOffOurBodies movement swelled.
