Dalton:solid sphere Model
The Solid Sphere Model was the first atomic model and was developed by John Dalton in the early 19th century. He hypothesized that an atom is a solid sphere that could not be divided into smaller particles. He came up with his theory as a result of his research into gases. -
Thompson:The plum Pudding Model
The Plum Pudding Model is a model of atomic structure proposed by J.J. Thomson in the late 19th century. Thomson had discovered that atoms are composite objects, made of pieces with positive and negative charge, and that the negatively charged electrons within the atom were very small compared to the entire atom. -
Rutherford: The Nuclear Model
Rutherford overturned Thomson's model in 1911 with his well-known gold foil experiment in which he demonstrated that the atom has a tiny and heavy nucleus. Rutherford designed an experiment to use the alpha particles emitted by a radioactive element as probes to the unseen world of atomic structure. -
Bohr: The Bohr (planetary) Model
The Bohr Model is a planetary model in which the negatively-charged electrons orbit a small, positively-charged nucleus similar to the planets orbiting the Sun,except that the orbits are not planar. -
Schrodinger: Quantum Mechanics Model
The quantum mechanical model is based on mathematics. Although it is more difficult to understand than the Bohr model, it can be used to explain observations made on complex atoms.The quantum mechanical model is based on quantum theory, which says matter also has properties associated with waves. According to quantum theory, it’s impossible to know the exact position and momentum of an electron at the same time. This is known as the Uncertainty Principle.
