    Tom Walker and his wife do not have a very good relationship and begin hiding money from one another.

    Rising Action
    Tom talks to the devil about a deal and after his wife tries to convince him to do it he decides not to. This causes his wife to make the deal and she doesn't return.

    Climax
    Tom becomes very wealthy but is still very concerned about his soul. Tom starts to go to church more often and is later confronted by the devil.

    Falling Action
    The devil arrives on a horse to collect Tom's soul.

    Resolution
    After Tom disappears the townspeople go to find his left over money but find nothing. This has created the legend of the black figure that can still be seen to this day.
