    In 1960, we witnessed the start of the modern cruise industry. Cruise ships began with being a basic holiday and then progressed to have more on-board entertainment. 22.1 million passengers were cruising in 2014.

  • Teletext

    Teletext
    Teletext is a process where people can book holidays in the comfort of your own home. The first Teletext service was called Ceefax which stared by the BBC in 1974. Teletext then began to advertise holidays on televisions.
    This affected Travel and Tourism because more people started to book away from travel agents, as it was an easier process.

  • Package Travel regulations

    In 1992, anybody who sells a holiday in the UK, has to comply with the package regulation act. .
    I you book an holiday you should be given a written copy.
    Any special needs or or requirements should be included in the contract.
    If the tour operator changes the contract, then you are eligible to either agree to the amendments or cancel the holiday and receive a refund.
    The regulations ensure the customer is always protected.

  • Channel Tunnel

    Channel Tunnel
    The Channel tunnel was first opened on 6th may 1994.
    The tunnel links Dover to Calais. It is 31.4 miles long.
    This has affected travel and tourism by having another method transport to get to France.

  • Tripadvisor

    TripAdvisor launched in hope of providing depth and recommendations on hotels, restaurants and flights etc. that consumers were looking for.

  • Age

    Since 2007, the median income for household has increased. The rising income is £21,000 in 2014/15 there was a £1,500 increase.
    Life expectancy has recently increased meaning both male and females between 2006 - 2012 is increasing. There are now more holidays for retired people because they are living longer and have more disposable income to spend on a holiday.

    The airbus A380, originally carried 555 passengers with 3 different classes, or 853 passengers, around 538 on the main deck and 315 on the upper deck.

    China is one of the most populated countries in the world. China hosted the Olympic games in 2008 increasing the amount of tourists that visit China.
