Proclamation of Neutrality

May 27, 1793

President Washington didn't want the United States to be tangled in close alliances and wanted to be clear of the conflict between Great Britain and France. He decided to make the Proclamation fo Neutrality.

XYZ Affair

John Adams wanted to get rid of the tensions between the United States and France so, he brought two American diplomats to the French and they has three agents called XYZ. The Frecnh wanted money before meeting.

Convention of 1800

After the XYZ Affair the relationship between the French and the United States was not as strong anymore. There was then a peace agreement to restore peace which was the Convention of 1800

Louisiana Purchase

Dec 18, 1803

The United States took land from Napoleon of France and this doubled the size of the United States. This was an acquisition of the Louisiana territory

Embargo Act

This act was passed to stay out of foreign conflicts. This stopped trade from France and Great Britain but it hurt the economy.

War of 1812

Jun 18, 1812

After the British were doing impressment people started wanting war. Then the president signed a declaration of war against Britain. This caused battles between the U.S, and Great Britain.

Treaty of Ghent

Dec 24, 1814

Andrew Jackson's troops defeated the British troops. After this the Treaty of Ghent was made to end the War of 1812 and keep the peace.

Monroe Doctrine

Dec 2, 1823

James Monroe made the Monroe Doctrine after the War of 1812 and this stated that the European Countries can't mess with the Western Hemisphere of the United States.
