The Start of Working at Bell Labs
In 1967, Dennis Ritchie joined Bell Laboratories where he worked on Multics operating system. When that operating system got abandoned, he met Ken Thompson and they worked on creating UNIX. -

In 1968, He earned his Doctoral Degree in Mathematics at Harvard University. He was able to work at Bell Labs as well as finish his schooling. -
UNIX Created
November 3rd, 1971- UNIX was created and sent out to the public. It was created at MIT through Bell Laboratories. It became successful because of how simple and cheap the system was. -
C Programming Language
1973, Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson created the C programming language for UNIX, which is the most commonly used language used for computer applications. This helped UNIX thrive because the C programming language made computer controls very easy and flexible. -
Awards
In 1974, Ritchie achieved ACM Award for most outstanding paper for system and languages and later on got the IEEE Emanueal Piore award in 1982. Throughout his entire career he continued to amaze scientists with his astonishing efforts and gained more awards. -

1995, Plan 9 Operating System was created. The workers at Bell Labs created this Operating System to enhance networking inside UNIX. Plan 9 Operating System is still being used to this day. -

The Passing of Dennis Ritchie
On October 12th, 2011, Dennis Ritchie passed away after fighting a long battle with Prostate Cancer. He is still being honored to this day.
