    The Declaration of independence was signed on July 4 1776 and it was written by Thomas Jefferson. They had worked on it for for days until they had decided and sign it off on July 4 1776. They had decided to write the Declaration because many colonists had wanted independence. The fourth of July had became a holiday many people celebrate today and call it "the birth of they United States of America as a independent nation.
