    The earthquake had a magnitude of 8.5 to 9.0 and through the tsunamis there is a death tool of 70000 deaths.The earthquake generated a tsunami that produced waves about 20 feet (6 metres) high at Lisbon and 65 feet (20 metres) high at Cádiz, Spain. Eighty-five percent of Lisbon's buildings were destroyed, including famous palaces and libraries, as well as most examples of Portugal's distinctive 16th-century Manueline architecture.

As a result, hundreds of attendees at the Palu Nomoni Festival in Talise Beach were still on the beach when the tsunami struck. While the tsunami was expected to be up to 3 meters in height, the tsunami with waves reaching nearly 6 meters.
