Earthquake produced a tsunami that, along with the earthquake and resulting fire, killed an estimated 20,000 people. Tsunami waves that crossed the Atlantic Ocean amplified to heights of 7 m (23 ft.) or more in the West Indies. This quake started at 9:30 in the morning when people were alarmed by weak tremors. -
Krakatoa Eruption (Java / Sumatra)

A violent explosion of Krakatoa volcano in the Sundra Strait between Java and Sumatra which caused the top of the volcano to collapse into the ocean. This sudden collapse produced a giant tsunami more than 35 m (115 ft.) high that destroyed 165 villages and killed more than 36,000 people. This eruption also expelled huge clouds of gas and ash which was also had a major result of death. -

This earthquake produced a tsunami in the Hawaiian Islands that killed about 160 people. The damage from this disaster cot $26 million. -
Great Chilean Earthquake (Chile)

The Chile earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed 61 people in Hawaii after traveling for 15 hours across the Pacific Ocean. This was the largest earthquake ever recorded by seismographs. -
Good Friday Earthquake (Alaska)

An Alaska earthquake that triggered a tsunami killing about 130 people in Alaska and California. This earthquake lasted four minutes and thirty-eight seconds. soil liquefaction and other ground failures caused much structural damage in several communities and much damage to property. -

Earthquake that occurred in the Sea of Japan causing a tsunami killing 120 people. This all happening on Okushiri Island, Japan (hardest hit). A large landslide also resulted from this event. -
Papua New Guinea Quake (papua New Guinea)

This earthquake triggered a submarine landslide which produced a tsunami. More than 2100 people were killed. This event occurred on a reverse fault near the north coast region of Papua New Guinea. -
Sumatra Earthquake (Indonesia)

The Sumatra Earthquake produced tsunami that killed about 230,000 people. This earthquake happened when the Indian Plate was subducted by the Burma Plate which caused a series of tsunamis along most areas bordering the Indian Ocean. -
Samoa Earthquake (Samoan Islands)

This earthquake created a tsunami that killed about 200 people. Several other areas including; New Zealand, Fiji and French Polynesia were also affected by this disaster. -
Chile Earthquake (Chile)

Earthquake that generated a tsunami which killed about 700 people in coastal towns. The intense shaking of this quake lasted for about three minutes. -
Tohoku Earthquake (Japan)

The Japan Earthquake created a tsunami that killed over 20,000 people. The tsunami had 30-foot waves that damaged several nuclear reactors in the area.
