The Lisbon earthquake had a magnitude of 9.0. The resultant Tsuinami killed 20,000 people. The wave was 23 feet high and came crashing down in Lisbon. The earthquake regulated in a fire spreading across also. -
Krakatoa Eruption- Java/Sumatra
The Eruption had a magnitude of 6.0. A total of 36,000 people were killed. The tsunami destroyed 165 villages, while the top of the volcano crashed into the ocean. -
Aleutian Earthquake- Alaska
The Aleutian Earthquake had a magnitude of 8.1. Killing 160 people. 48 minutes after the quake hit a 100 foot Tsunami hit. The Tsunami was actually 135 feet above sea level. -
Great Chilean Earthquake- Chile
The Chile Earthquake had a magnitude of 9.5. Only 61 people were killed, the catastrophe was caused due to subduction on the Nazca plate. The city that was most effected was Valdiva. -
Good Friday Earthquake- Alaska
The Earthquake in Alaska had a 9.2. Magnitude nLuckily only 130 people were killed. It was the largest quake ever recorded in North America. It was generated by movements on the ocean floor. -
Hokkaido Earthquake- Japan
The magnitude of this earthquake was a 7.8. 120 people were killed in total, while 2.95 million homes lost power. Surprisingly the air port was only closed for 1 day. -
Papua New Guinea Earthquake - Papua New Guinea
This quake hadn’t a 7.1 magnitude. The total destruction killed 2,100 plus people. More then 800 languages are spoken on the 600 plus islands. Transportation by air is extensive as there are not many roads. -
Sumatra Earthquake- Indonesia
This quake had a high magnitude of 9.1. Unfortunately 230,000 people were killed as waves slammed into the coastline of 11 countries. Many people said that they saw animals fleeing minutes before the wave crashed. Afterwards very few animal bodies were found. -
Samoa Earthquake- Samoan Islands
The Tsunami had an 8.1 magnitude and killed 200 people. A 10 year old girl was able to save 100 plus people after learning about water drawback in class. The waves were small when hitting land but were traveling at unreal speeds. -
Chile Earthquake- Chile
The quake had a 8.8 magnitude. 700 people were killed while the catastrophe stuck at 3:34 in the morning. Most of the major destruction was due to multiple aftershocks. -
Tohoku Earthquake- Japan
The quake reached a shocking 9.1 magnitude. 20,000 people were killed as 5,000 plus aftershock earthquakes hit that year. 2,500 plus people are still missing today. -
Sulawesi Earthquake- Indonesia
The quake was a 7.5 magnitude and killed 2,100 plus people. Landslides were triggered after the earthquake along with the Tsunami. 340,000 people are still missing today.
