  • Birth of Davy Crockett

    Birth of Davy Crockett
"Birthplace of Davy Crockett". I found this artifact on the Digital Public Library of America. It is a photograph of the cabin where Davy Crockett was born. This is an important starting artifact for this project as it shows that Crockett was born into a typical family/home. You wouldn't assume an invincible bear hunter and legend would be born in a small cabin in Tennessee.
  • Davy Crocketts Life

    Davy Crocketts Life
This is a cabinet card portrait of Davy Crockett, date unknown. I found it through the University of North Texas' digital library. It is a photograph of a portrait that eventually burned down in a house fire. On the back, it credits the original photographer as D.H. Swartz. Important because it gives a better look at what Davy Crockett truly looked like while he was alive.
  • Crockett Almanack

    Crockett Almanack
"Crockett Almanack." A series of short stories published after Davy Crockett's death, during the 1830s. This specific one is from 1838. These are important because they're largely accredited to transforming Crockett into a mythical legend due to their fantastical nature.I found these through Gale Primary Sources.
  • Davy Crockett Advertisment

    Davy Crockett Advertisment
"Blue Bell Davy Crockett Advertisement". I located this through the Smithsonian website. I think this source is important because it shows the long-term impact Davy Crockett has had on our country and people. This advertisement is from 1955, shortly after the release of the Walt Disney show, "Davy Crockett," that was highly popular during this time.
