Germany invaded Poland from the West while USSR invaded Poland from the East. Invaded Poland because they wanted to control the land between Germany and their enemies. This led to Great Britain and France declaring war on Germany. -
Fall of Paris
The invasion of France by Germany. This led to France being defeated and weakened. The outcome was that France eventually rose back up. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked American ships in Pearl Harbor to prevent them from beating them in naval warfare. The Americans then entered WW2 because they were mad that Japan attacked them. -
D-Day
The Allied forces invaded German beaches because they were tired of being pushed around and made a plan. This changed Germany's influence and power around the world. -
Battle of the Bulge
This was Hitler's last attempt to defeat the Allies in Europe. He only attacked because he was desperate to defeat the Allied Forces. This led to Germany surrendering and Hitler committing suicide. -
Battle of Iwo JIma
America attacked Iwo Jima because they wanted to have air dominance over Japan. The Japanese fought hard to protect this island but failed due to America's size.This led to America being able to aerial attack Japan. -
Battle of Okinawa
This island was also invaded because America wanted air superiority over Japan. The Okinawans fought hard but eventually lost to America. This led to Japan being invaded. -
VE Day
This was the day that Germany surrendered and Europe was taken back to the countries who owned it before the war. Hitler committed suicide by taking cyanide and shooting himself in the head. This led to Europe being free again. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
President Truman was the one who decided to nuke Hiroshima instead of risking losses by invading. It killed 135,000 in Hiroshima and 50,000 in Nagaski. This led to Japan giving up and the defeat of Japan. -
VJ Day
This was the defeat of Japan which was called VJ day and this day was celebrated. Streets were lined with people excited for the end of the war.
