  • Ballet Russes

    The ballet company Ballets Russes was discovered the Russian impresario Serge Diaghilev. It was performed in Paris between the years 1909 and 1929.
  • Hip Hop Dance

    Because of the hip hop culture hip hop dance was evolved. In the year 1771 it was originated, Black and Latin Americans created a wide range of hip hop styles. Hip hop dance isn't like other styles of dances, because it is often freestyle and is made up on the spot, unlike many others styles which are choreographed.

    During the Renaissance around the year 1500 in Italy, Ballet began. As the French King Henry II was marrying Catherine de Medici, she introduced early dance syles into court in France.

    In the early 1900's Jazz dance was originated from African American vernacular dance in New Orleans alongside Jazz music. When it reached the 1950's Jazz dance was often reffered as Tap Dance.

    Swing dancing was originated in the 1920's and 1930's in America. It has then lived on ever since. Swing dances influences each new generation of music and is described as a variety of partner dances.
  • Merce Cunningham

    Mercier Philip "Merce" Cunningham was an American dancer and choegraher. He was born on April 16, 1919, Centralia, Washington. Merce formed his own company in 1953. He was most famous for developing new forms of abstract dance movements. Merce Cunningham died on July 29th, 2009, New York.
  • Anna Pavlova

    Anna Matveyevna Pavlovna Pavlova was a Russian prima ballerina and choreographer. She was born on Feburary 12, 1881, in St Petersburg, Russia. In the year 1905, she performed in her breakthrough performance, The Dying Swan. This became her signature role. She had then joined the Ballet Russe in 1909 and formed her own company. Anna Pavlova then died in 1931.

    Ball room dancing history is a mixture of myth, tradition, courtship rituals and meshing cultures. It was originated in in England in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
