Cyrus McCormick was born on February 15, 1809.He was born on a farm in the valley of Virginia, 18 miles away from Lexington.Cyruss' dad was Robert McCormick. Cyrus was fascinated by machinery and he was skilled on the forge. -
Middle Years
When Cyrus was 15 he invented a lightweight cradle for carting harvested grain. In 1834 a patent was issued to Cyrus McCormick as the inventor of the mechanical reaper.Cyrus had a company to sell reapers and they sold 54,841 machines.Cyrus McCormick invented the reaper in 1831. -
late years
Cyrus McCormick died on May 13, 1884 in Chicago, Illinois.He had been handicaped the last four years of his life because of a stroke which gave him paralysis of his legs. He was buried in the Graceland Cemetery. He gave his son Cyrus McCormick Jr. his company.
