Control Over Cuba
In November 5, 1900 to February 21 1901 the constitution met in Havana. The U.S. now had control over Cuba after the Spanish American War. Furthermore the U.S. ruled from January 1, 1899 until May 20, 1902. -
Government
In 1905 the people of Cuba accused their government of tampered with the vote. Because of this, Estrada Palma resigned on the date of September 29, 1906. In addition, Theodore Roosevelt made William Howard Taft governor. -
Three Musketeer Presidents
In 16 years three presidents ruled Cuba. One ruled from 1909-19013 this was José Miguel Gómez. The second one ruled from 1913-1921 which was Mario García Menocal. Finally, the third president was Alfredo Zayas y Alfonso who ruled from 1921-1925. -
Machado
After those three presidents, a dictator known as Machado has been elected into office. The day he was elected was May 20, 1925. On his first term before he was elected he made promises, and once he was elected he made them happen. However, when he was elected again in 1928 which it started to go downhill from there. In the early 1930’s the depression was started and in 1933 the U.S.’s army made him run out of the country. -
Basic Information
The Cuban Revolution started around 1953 and finished around 1959. Before this, there was a ruler named Fulgencio Batista until January 1, 1959. Fidel Castro ruled Cuba from 1959 to 2008. -
The Entrance
81 people were in a yacht named Granma on the way to Cuba. Castro was amongst these 81 people. They touched in eastern Cuba in December 2, 1956. Many of them were killed and captured, but Castro had made it out. They went to the Sierra Mountains to create a movement called the 26th of July Movement to remember and honor the 1953 attack. -
Revolutionary Directorate
On the date of March 13, 1957 a large group of people called Revolutionary Directorate. This group led a disastrous attack in Havana on the presidential palace. If you were in this strike and your business shut down you would not receive and re-employment. -
Cause an Effect
In 1958 the revolution was still going on. There were scattered raids around Cuba and property destruction. As a result, it affected the economy of Cuba because of business decrease (some were burned to the ground.) -
Under Castro's Control
People being killed, random arrests, and acts of torture were some of the things Cuba experienced through Castro’s wrath. Around six hundred people that were apart of Batista’s forces had been killed by revolutionary justice systems in May 15, 1959. There was also a government act that made Che Guevara available to any position on the justice system because he was a native to Cuba. -
Karma
Castro had wanted the United States to give him money because he needed it. However, the U. S. didn’t give him the money. As a result, he now has to deal with exporiation. Exporitation means that property rights have been taken away, more taxes, and etc is involved.
