Fidel Castro
Due to failing the Bay of Pigs invasion, Fidel Castro was trying to figure out a way to defend Cuba from an attack by the United States. The Bay Of Pigs invasion was a failed attempt attack by the U.S. to overthrow Castro's government. -
The idea
Soviet premier Nikita Krushchev came up with the idea of placing intermediate-range U.S. missiles in Cuba. This would lead to an attack with the U.S. against the Soviet Union. -
Missile installations
The Soviet Union had worked as secretly and quickly as they could to build its missile installations in Cuba. -
attack on Cuba
Castro announces that Cuba is taking measures that would make any direct U.S. attack on Cuba the equivalent of a world war. -
Delayed Attack
There was an ordered U-2 reconnaissance flight over the Western part of Cuba by President Kennedy. Due to the bad weather, it had to be postponed which caused a delayed attack. -
Resuming mission
This was the delayed mission from October 7th. The U.S. Air Force U-2 plane had discovered missile sites while flying over Western Cuba. There were photographs taken to show the evidence. -
Beginning
The Crisis began for the United States. Reconnaissance photographs revealed the Soviet missiles that were under construction in Cuba. -
Kennedy Announcement
Kennedy had announced what he had discovered about the missile installations to the public and his decision to quarantine the island, He was making sure there was no trade between the islands. -
U.S. ships
Kennedy had ordered six Crusader jets to fly along the reconnaissance mission earlier in the day. By night, the U.S. ships were positioned 800 miles from Cuba. -
Military Forces
All Soviet ships on the way to Cuba had slowed down, or turned back. The U.S. had the military forces go to the highest level in U.S. history which is known as DEFCON2. -
Sent Letter
Krushchev sent a letter to Kennedy explaining that he would remove his missiles if Kennedy announces to the public that he will never invade Cuba. -

President Kennedy writes Krushchev a letter saying that the U.S. will not invade Cuba if Krushchev removes the missiles -
Kennedy's Letter
Kennedy had sent Khrushchev a letter stating that he will announce to the public the Cuba will not be invaded by the U.S., if Krushchev removes the missiles from Cuba. -
Plane shot down
Pilot Major Rudolf Anderson was killed due to the American U-2 plane being shot down and crashing over Cuba. -
End of Cuban Missile Crisis
Krushchev announces over the radio that he would remove the missiles from Cuba and return them to the Soviet Union, which stopped the tension. He had trusted that Cuba would not get invaded by the U.S.
