U.S. Ambassador Adlai Stevenson confronts the Soviets at the U.N. They do not answer. -

EX-COMM receives a letter from Khrushchev stating that the Soviets would remove their missiles if President Kennedy publicly guarantees the U.S. will not invade Cuba. But the construction of the sites increased. -
October 27,1962
Two U2 planes departured, one for Russia and the other shot down in Cuba. EX-COMM receives a second letter saying the soviets won't invade in addition the U.S. removes its missiles from Turkey. -
October 28,1962
The crisis ends in a speech aired on Radio Moscow, Khrushchev announces that he has agreed to remove the ICBM's from Cuba.
