Rape of Nanjing
The Rape of Nanjing was the mass murder and war rape during the six-week period following the Japanese capture of the city of Nanking on December 13, 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians and disarmed soldiers were murdered by soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army. -

Battle of the Atlantic
The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest military campaign in WWII. The battle pitted Allied merchant and supply ships, along with their escorts, against German submarines, aircraft, and surface raiders. Many ships were sunk during this time. The battle started when Britian declared war on Germany and ended with Germanys surrender. -
Battle of Britain
Hitler had turned his sights on Britain after defeating France. The Germans bombed Britain night and day. In August Britain retaliated and bombed Berlin. German planes began to bomb London in September but the Royal Air Force was able to fight back and the Germans had to be called off. In November Germany fought in the form of blitzkrieg and continued to do so until May 1941. -

Bataan Death March
The Bataan Death March was the forced transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 60,000 to 80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war. 2,500 to 10,000 died before they reached their destination at Camp O'Donnell. On the death march the prisoners were abused and starved. -
Battle of El Alamein
The Battle of El Alamein was fought in Eygypt. The allies won at the battle of El Alamein and it led to the surrender of the Germans in North Africa. It also forced the Afrika Korps to retreat which was pivotal because if they had made it to the Suez Canal the allies ability to supply themselves for the war would have been badly affected. -

Batlle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought on a small island near Japan. The U.S. wanted Iwo JIma because it could serve as a refueling base and emergency landing field. On Feburary 19th 1945 30,000 U.S. marines invaded Iwo Jima. The mission was to capture Mount Suribachi which was completed in the third day of fighting. To celebrate the marines raised the American falg on Mount Suribachi. On March 26th the Untied States secured the entire island. Iwo JIma was the turning point of the Pacific theater. -
