After the breakout in Wuhan, the first cases were discovered in the US. My friend Matt and I thought little of the event at the time.
-
When the emergency was declared we were both on spring break. Matt G. was already part of an online program so the coming shift would impact him less than myself. I had been at school in Minnesota and he had been at home in Nebraska. My sister, Marlana had recently graduated from college and was working for an electrical service company.
-
Matt and I both began online classes, however our experiences were drastically different. Matt's school focused on online while my school focused on transitioning to a new learning environment. Marlana worked from home.
-
The lockdowns caught all three of us off guard: Marlana had recently begun working at Lincoln electrical Services and Matt and I both had our semesters postponed. At this point everything was uncertain. Matt and I had planned to move into an apartment in May and that was looking unlikely.
-
Matt began his summer semester online as I finished my spring semester and prepared to move in with Marlana for the season.
-
Marlana returned to the office and Nebraska had mostly reopened. Matt and I spent this month mostly working and staying at home.
-
Matt continued to work in Omaha while Marlana and I spent most of our time fishing and working with little else happening.
-
Matt and I had initially postponed moving until August, but when the time came we decided to wait longer. I moved back to Omaha from Marlana's apartment in Lincoln and Matt and I began to hang out in person again.
-
School began to pick up and cases rose again, so Matt and I began to stay inside more. I began work at my new job as we prepared to move in December.
-
I went back to Lincoln to see Marlana for my 21st birthday. Matt decided to visit his girlfriend in Florida for a week. Marlana and her fiancé travelled to Ohio for his brother's wedding.
-
Matt and his family contracted Covid-19 at the beginning of the month. He was forced to stay home from work for two weeks. Luckily he never showed any symptoms other than a headache.
-
Once again Matt and I decided not to move since cases were on the rise. We both continued to stay with our parents and work in Omaha.
