    he Spanish Colonization of America was the exploration, conquest, settlement and political rule over much of the western hemisphere by the Spanish Empire. It was initiated by the Spanish conquistadores and developed by the Monarchy of Spain through its administrators and missionaries.
  • Phillipines

    Phillipines
    the United States gained control over the Philippine Islands after the Spanish-American War in 1898. Their plan was to educate and uplift the Filipinos. The Philipine Islands didn’t want to be forced to trade with the US. They claimed that the United States had promised them complete independence after the war and thus, they declared their independence and created their own republic- the Philippine Republic. This upset the US and they fought the Filipino nationalists.

    The U.S. first got involved in 1875 when a treaty was signed between the U.S. and Hawaii. It permitted US access to the Hawaiian sugarcane market
  • Guam

    Guam
    Guam came under US control after the Spanish American War. Guam was a stopping point for US ships sailing to and from the Philippines. In July 21, 1944, the US fought the Battle of Guam and recaptured Guam from the Japanese. After this war, Guam became a territory of the US. The US also granted the Guamanians US citizenship.
