Rolando González, a national legislator and former secretary general of Monge’s National Liberation Party , announced the president’s death on his Facebook profile.The country was in shock to find out the news. Lawmakers, former presidents and thousands of Costa Ricans gathered at the Metropolitan Cathedral in downtown San José for the funeral of Luis Monge.
